How do I stop a habit I know is hurting me?
So the only way you can truly get rid of any vice that you know is not good for you is if you simply just stop resisting.
From the essay
You need to be kind to yourself. Kindness to yourself is a very important skill set, and it requires you to understand that even if you might be doing things that you know you shouldn't be doing, you keep that awareness. Right, you keep the awareness that you're compelled in body and mind, not your spirit though, but your body and mind have these needs that have been indoctrinated, or you've been conditioned. Our mind and body have been conditioned by society to be dependent on certain things in our lives. There are a lot of vices. And this discussion isn't about analysing what the vices are. It's the fact that these vices exist. Yet why do so many people still go to their vices when they know spiritually and in their soul that it's inconducive? It's not conducive with who they are. Yet they continue to do that. So what that means is who you are is someone who remains stuck on vices. You actually haven't gotten out of the identity of the person who needs these vices.
You can choose an action from the perspective of mind, you can choose an action from the perspective of body, or you can choose an action from the perspective of your soul. And only one of them is the true you. Because the mind is a tool for your soul to experience in this world. Your body is the vessel for you to get senses, the 3D senses of this world, so that you have something called an experience.
There are some things that are definitely a vice which trouble me, and what it means is simply I haven't done enough inner work to listen to my soul, to step away from those vices, because the pull to those vices is too strong for my mind and body. It overrides the soul. So there's always work to be done. You know, I'm working on myself just as much as anyone else is. It's just the fun of writing about it and talking about it is ultimately to connect with people who are on this path, which is what my content is always about: to instil inspiration or motivation in people who are also having some difficult moments in their life, and to know that they're not alone.
